Less than a block from ActivFever, Burnout is one of the most popular shop in the South Bay. It got its name from a raging fire that consumed the Hollywood Riviera Beach Club in the evening of September 25, 1958. Its ruins bulldozed into the sea. Urban Legend states that Burnout got its name from a different source. The city's border with Torrance crossed the beach there, and wild parties with alcohol would occur on the south side of the line, with no alcohol allowed on the north throughout the 1950's at the club. The dividing line was visible because huge bonfires were lit in its place (thus the name Burnout).
